Powder coating is a popular way to finish all kinds of products from household items like bicycles and lawnmowers to large machines like cars and industrial equipment. One of the most important pieces of equipment for powder coating is the spray booth.
A spray booth is an enclosure that contains the powder during the application process. A gun-like apparatus applies the actual coating but the booth prevents the chemicals from contaminating the air in your shop. Booths also filter the incoming air to prevent outside debris from ruining the powder coating.
Powder Coating Booth Prices #
Most powder coating booths range in price from $10,000 to $50,000. The price largely depends on the size of the booth.
- A powder coating booth that is 8' tall, 8' wide and 10' long will likely run you about $10,000.
- For around $20,000, you can buy a booth that's 10' tall, 10' wide and 50' long.
- At a price tag of $40,000, you can expect to find booths that are around 14' tall and 14' wide in a variety of lengths.
Most of the time you want to purchase a spray booth that is completely enclosed with four sides so that it filters both incoming and outgoing air. That's the safest option to protect your employees from harmful chemicals. It also produces the best results.
However, if $10,000 is more than you can spend, consider buying just a spray wall. They still collect overspray. But, because there is only one wall instead of four they don't filter the incoming air. You risk damaging the powder coating with airborne debris. However, spray walls start at the much friendlier price tag of $4,000 to $5,000.
Other Powder Coating Average Costs #
Starting a powder coating business or equipping your existing shop to provide powder coating services is an expensive endeavor. The spray booth is far from the only equipment you'll need. But the equipment is an investment. It will eventually pay for itself as you gain new customers.
Another major piece of equipment you'll need is the oven that melts the powder once it has been applied. Powder coating ovens are even more expensive than booths. Generally they range from $20,000 to $50,000. Some dealers sell combined ovens and booths for anywhere from $30,000 to $100,000.
