How Much Does Spray Foam Insulation Cost?

Spray Foam Insulation Prices

Spray foam is a relatively new method of insulation that is quickly becoming the popular option for home and business insulation in the USA. Spray foam insulation generally costs about 20 percent more than fiberglass insulation during the insulation phase. However, with the advantages it has of getting into every crevasse it does perform better and do a better job of insulating in the long term. It is the future of insulation.

Spray foam prices

Spray foam costs $.35 to $.85 per board foot to hire a professional spray foam company to insulate your property. It is quote in terms of “board feet”. A “board foot” is a space that is 1 foot X 1 foot X 1 inch. One board foot is not the same amount of space as one square foot. Do not confuse the two!

A 2x4 is 11/2 × 31/2. inches. Therefore, a board foot is roughly 3 times the volume of a board foot. It will cost $1.40 to $3.00 per square foot of 2X4 wall space. That should make it easier to calculate the cost of spray foam installation. For the average sized American home with 1,600 to 2,500 square feet the cost of spray foam insulation will be $2,500 to $6,000 to do a complete job for the entire home. The price will depend on the climate you are in, the costs of living in your region, and the company you hire.

Things to Consider

  • Fiberglass Insulation may be cheaper up front. However, how much will foam insulation save you on energy in the long term. It gets into all the little places that fiberglass insulation doesn’t. You could save a lot heating and cooling your home over time.
  • Open cell is lighter but does not insulate as well. Closed cell insulation is denser and insulates better than open cell. Closed cell spray foam is more expensive because it uses more material.
