Types of Quincy Air Compressors #

Quincy offers two major types of air compressors: reciprocating and rotary screw.

  • A reciprocating air compressor uses a motor with pistons and valves to compress air into a smaller volume, and the pressurized air is then stored in a tank. Quincy has been building reciprocating air compressors since 1924 and offers gas and electric machines that range from 3 to 30 HP and come with an available 2-year warranty.
  • A rotary screw air compressor employs two screws that are similar to large drill bits to compress air. These are fast become the industry standard, particularly for projects that require continuous operation. Quincy makes quiet and reliable rotary air compressors with anywhere from 5 to 350 HP that are suitable for 24-hour operation.

Choosing the Right Quincy Air Compressor #

Sizing and selecting the Quincy air compressor that's right for you is critical. Not having enough output could doom your operation, while buying too much machine could break your budget. Follow these simple steps to ensure you end up with a compressor that efficiently powers your air tools.

  • The two numbers you'll want to focus on are cubic feet per meter (CFM) and pounds per square inch (PSI).
  • Take stock of the tools you plan to run off of the compressor. Locate the manufacturer's CFM requirements for each and add them together. Then, add an additional 25% to account for possible leakage and higher future output needs.
  • Next, figure out the maximum PSI needed. Rather than adding together the individual PSI requirements of each tool, just determine which tool has the highest PSI value and use that number.
  • If you plan on purchasing an electrical compressor, you'll also need to make sure that it is compatible with the voltage in the places you plan to use it. Residential and industrial buildings typically have different power supplies (i.e. single phase vs. three-phase) and voltage (115V, 220 V, etc.).
  • After obtaining these figures, present them to a qualified air compressor dealer who will help you choose a model from the lineup of Quincy air compressors.
